Powered Paragliding licensing arrangement The current official qualification requirements to become a qualified Paramotor pilot are as follows;

First you need a novice paragliding licence, you can get that from any of the many paragliding schools.. Please have a look at the HGFA web site for training schools ( www.hgfa.asn.au) and look under schools. This takes about one week and is an excellent way to spend part of your annual leave After you have gained your novice licence you are required to acquire 20 hours of free flying experience. After this you need to enrol in a motorised endorsement course. These courses are run by Paramotor instructors. There are not many Paramotor instructors, you can also find them on the HGFA web site, but here is the list:

  • Australian Paragliding Centre

CFI : Peter Bowyer Murrumbateman 02 6226 8400

  • Sydney Paragliding Centre

  • WA Paragliding Academy

CFI : Jiri Hlavaty Perth 0417 776 550

The new system, which is currently under development, is called a “straight through” training course. This proposed methodology will train you straight off in the use of a Paramotor, without compromising the free flying skills you need to get in order to become a qualified pilot. After you have gained your novice licence you can team up with one of the HGFA listed “Mentor’s”, to fly with. Remember,….there is no alternative for experience

There are no HGFA approved “Mentor’s” yet as the whole system of straight through training is still under development, but when they come about they will be published on this page.

The following is a list of elected Paramotor safety officers and senior safety officers, there are not many but hopefully we can increase the number in the years to come.
